Gatlinburg has so much to offer and can often times get overwhelming when making your itinerary. You can spend a week in The Smokies and and feel like you didn't experience all that you wanted. At Tennessee Stays, we want to help you feel more like a local and to make the best of your time when you are on vacation.
Most Mountain towns have a chairlift, but rarely do you see 3 different chairlifts in the area. Below is a list to help you better determine which one is suited for you and your family.
Gatlinburg Skylift Park
The Skylift Park has been a staple of Gatlinburg since 1954. Thousands of people visit the skylift and ride the yellow chairs every year. Sadly, in 2016 the skylift was damaged by the Great Smoky Mountains wildfire, but they have came back bigger and better and ever! In 2019, the longest suspension bridge at 680 feet opened.
We dare you to walk the bridge and double dare you to lay across the double glass panels in the middle of the bridge. At the park they have a huge deck and the sky center to enjoy the views of downtown Gatlinburg. The sky center serves snacks such as pizza and on the second floor they have a bar. Opening soon, the SkyTrail will connect the skybridge at both ends. Also note, when it opens, the SkyTrail will be dog friendly.
Prices start at $24.95 for adults and $17.95 for children.
Ober Gatlinburg is much more than a tramway.
The name comes from the German meaning, Upper Gatlinburg. You can ride the tramway up the mountain or drive up to Ober Gatlinburg using Ski Mountain Road. Word of advice if you are not used to winding roads I would advise you take the tramway.
Its winter all year long at Ober, inside you can ice skate with the family. And from mid December to mid March, its all things snow, skiing, snowboarding, and tubing.
For an extra $8 you can take the chairlift to the highest point any chairlift in the area has to offer.
You will have the most visibility of The Smoky Mountains, so sit back enjoy the live bluegrass and views. We highly recommend spending the money, it is well worth it.
For Food, Season Of Ober has a very wide selection, from burgers, pasta, and southern cooking. The chicken and waffles are delicious and the chicken fettucine alfredo is a great runner-up.
The Ober Loft Lounge has so many great beers, including some outstanding German beers. They also have a full bar with a nice selection of wine that you can drink by the glass or bottle.
Prices start at $17 for adults, $14 for children. You can also get a all day wristband which cost $39 for adult, $35 for children. The wristband includes alpine slide, chairlift, wildlife encounter, rock climbing wall, miniature golf, ice skating (one session), ski mtn coaster (one ride), and ice bumper cars (one session)
Lastly in the list of chairlifts in Gatlinburg, Anakeesta opened to the public in September of 2017. In 2020 Anakeesta went through a six and a half million expansion, which includes the Anavista Tower a 360 degree observation tower, a tree adventure challenge course, which is great for all ages and Cliff Top Restaurant serving American food.
Anakeesta gets it's name from the Cherokee word, referring to higher ground. And boy do they have to breathtaking views. In my opinion you the best views of Charlie’s Bunion, Chimney Tops, and Mount Kephart.
If you are very adventurous, then Anakeesta is the best of the three to visit. You can zipline through the forest, fly through the mountain on their rail runner, and walk 60 feet in the air on suspended bridges supported by trees.
After a day of burning calories, be sure to eat at The Smokehouse. We recommend getting a seat by the window or sit on the balcony if the weather is nice, and enjoy a stunning view of downtown Gatlinburg.
Prices start at $21.99 for Adults, $17.99 for children. The Rail Runner is $12.99 and the zipline is $56.98 which includes the express pass general admission.
Honorable mention, some might know but Pigeon Forge is opening a chairlift in 2021 along with a 85 foot observation tower. The attraction will be located next to Pigeon Forge Snow.
